Dolores Lavern Baker, responsible for a couple dozens of hits both in the R&B and the Pop Charts of the late 50's, proved capable of melding blues, jazz and R&B styles in a way that made possible the emergence of a new idiom: rock and roll. The first black artist to file a legal grievance against white artists who produced pop covers of their hits - she sued competing label MERCURY's recording artist Georgia Gibbs for covering her songs for the pop market, she lost that fight but it set an important precedent! - and of the first R&B acts to bring rock and roll to the Ed Sullivan Show opening the genre to a much wider audience, Lavern Baker is still considered one of the most remarkable female vocalists of her era, creating a sultry yet hard image that inspires female R&B singers to this day. Tracklist: Jim Dandy, Tra La La, I can't Love You Enough, Get Up Get Up (You Sleepy Head), That's All I Need, Bop-Ting-A-Ling, Tweedle Dee, Still, Play It Fair, Tomorrow Night, That Lucky Old Sun, Soul On Fire, My Happiness Forever, How Can You Leave A Man Like This?

On HEADSPIN we offer heavy stoner and psych rock sounds by excellent contemporary artists.
