Suffused with new digital technologies and combining searingly sweet and danceable pop with perhaps the duo's strangest and boundary-pushing compositions, the album did exactly what a

Limited to 100 copies on purple vinyl! The sole LP by Brazilian quartet Assim Assado, originally released in 1974 by the CID-label, gets reissued on vinyl. Both the artwork and the contents make clear that the band was massively influenced by the psychedelic/progressive art-rock of the popular act Secos & Molhados. Even the androgynous element is present! Assim Assado was led by Miguel de Deus, formerly of Os Brazoes. This wonderful album is recommended to fans of Brazil's late '60s/early '70s rock scene in general, and of Secos & Molhados in particular.

"It's dark and still in the chief's village protected by mountains of the great southern regions of Africa..." so begins the seventeen minute epic 'African Day' that kicks off the greatest Afro-psychedelic concept album ever made - first released on Parlophone in 1971. Hawk's music on this epochal album is a fusion of tribal African rhythms with acoustic hippie music elements - long solo jams, saxophone breaks, percussion - sounding at times like an African version of Embryo fronted by Tim Buckley! In Johannesburg, bursting, like Durban, with musicians aeons ahead of their time, Hawk added the sunburnt, brown prairies of Africa to the genre of the concept album - the heady, steady beat of drums, and enough cross-rhythms to make you dizzy. Add the mesmerizing voices - and the telling of a story. Tuck in the ranging flute, the saxophone. The deep bass buzz. And the hypnotic talking drums. Music the African way: earthy stuff - virile, extraordinary, substantial. Hawk were listening to a lot of Hugh Tracey tapes (the Afro-musicologist who travelled Africa capturing sounds and music on tape for posterity). They went to Swaziland and came back with their own sounds: drums and a burning desire to make their own brand of African music. From all of this came 'African Day.' The Lion/RTA reissue comes with an LP-sized 12-page booklet which includes a complete band history by music writer Owen Coetzer, packed with photos, plus the story of the re-discovery of the multi-track master tapes and the transfer of those newfound tapes that resulted in this very reissue.
The Return To Analog edition is limited to 500 copies on black vinyl.

Heavy prog-psych with tons of organ and fuzz guitar courtesy of The Shiver from Switzerland. This is their sole album from 1969, housed in a sinister cover designed by surrealist painter H.R. Giger (his first album cover work). Originally formed in the mid-'60s in St. Gallen (Switzerland) as a beat, R&B band in the vein of Spencer Davis Group or The Yardbirds (and featuring an English vocalist), The Shivers dropped soon the "s" from their name at the same time as they adopted the early progressive sounds of British bands like Procol Harum or Moody Blues. After winning the first prize at a couple of major music festivals and even sharing stage with Pink Floyd, they started recording their first album. Combining interesting cover versions (the LP opens with a monster heavy cover of Procol Harum's 'Repent Walpurgis') and original songs, the album is a perfect example of the transition from beat and blues-rock to psychedelia and heavy prog. DARA PUSPITA - THE GARAGE YEARS (PINK)
Limited to 200 copies on pink vinyl! Dara Puspita (trans. "Flower Girls") was arguably the world's greatest all-female garage rock band. The reason you've probably never heard of them is that they came from Indonesia where they were extremely popular during the 1960s. Their career spanned from 1965 until 1973 including 3 years (1969-1971) living and touring in Europe. The four albums recorded by the original members between 1966 and 1968 (the material represented on this LP) is one of the great chapters of 1960s popular music history never to be reissued in vinyl, let alone recognized beyond a few tuned-in souls and adventurous record collectors in the Western world. This is an amazing compilation for all garage rockers, fuelled with fuzz tunes and groovy rhythms.

Since the early '80s Allan Crockford has been a major figure in Medway's garage rock scene, including playing for The Prisoners, Billy Childish's Thee Headcoats, the original line-up of the James Taylor Quartet, The Solarflares and many more. Since 2010 he has fronted his own band, The Galileo 7, as writer, guitarist and lead vocalist. Their blend of powerful '60s garage rock'n'roll, psychedelic vocal harmonies and quality songwriting is also featured on 'You, Me And Reality'.

Second release by Greek Label Sunnyboy66 Records. As Sao Paulo's east side is home of a garage scene that never lost breath, Os Estilhaços could not have been formed in any other context. Directly influenced by '60s psychedelia and drawing on the garage punk groups of that time (The Seeds, Count Five, Electric Prunes, Music Machine), the band presents its own compositions and some covers, having already played throughout Sao Paulo's alternative circuit and also in other states of the country and festivals such as Dia da Música, Garageira and Grito Rock, held in more than two hundred cities, in several countries. Caio Sergio (ex-Haxixins [vocals/guitar]) and Felipe Blasi [guitar] joined their longtime friends Paulo Nobre and Alexandre Rodrigues (ex-Panoramas [bass/drums respectively]) and invited Cristina Alves [organ] to complete the team. With some time on the road and after Felipe's and Caio's leaving (replaced by Rodrigo "Bob"), the band goes on as a quartet, without losing its sound essence. They consolidated a repertoire and recorded the tracks of their first album that could only achieve the desired sixties sound with analog equipment and touch of the friend and producer Luis Tissot (Caffeine Sound Estudio). The sonority of Os Estilhaços faithfully demonstrates the obscurity of garage scene. In live performances, the audience feel itself in the '60s, inside that primitive atmosphere in which each instrument contributes to the collective trip, always filled with plenty of fuzz guitars, the strong rhythm of the drums and the bass, supplementing with organ that flows melted in each song. Worth giving up consciousness for a few moments and get carried away by the acid trip of Os Estilhaços.
