Vivid peyote-induced psychedelia from Texas sounding like an impossible meld between the Elevators and the Velvet Underground but possessing a strongly unique disposition.
Recorded in 1970 but never released at the time, featuring future members of Roky Erickson's backing band Bleib Alien/The Aliens. Formed in Austin in the late 1960s by visionary lyricist and autoharp player Billy Bill Miller and his friend Tom McGarrigle on guitar, Cold Sun evolved from a band called Cauldron (later Amethyst) which at one point featured drummer John Kearney from Roky Erickson's first band The Spades. Miller, a proto-Goth figure always dressed in black, highly influenced by Joe Meek and vintage sci-fi/horror movies, started to experiment with weird noises out of his electrified autoharp, favoring the audio-oriented drug mescaline over the LSD associated with hippies. Amethyst jammed with musicians such as Benny Thurman from the 13th Floor Elevators and Steve Webb from the Lost And Found (another International Artists band). The definitive Amethyst line-up, with Hugh Patton on drums and Mike Waugh on bass, played at venues like the I.L. Club, a historical landmark of Austin blues and psychedelic music. It was through Mike Waugh's friendship with Elevators drummer John Ike Walton that Billy Miller and the band (still unsure about their name but calling themselves The Daily Planet, changing it to Dark Shadows, and then to Cold Sun) hooked up with the local label/studio Sonobeat (Mariani, Wildfire, Johnny Winter...), who expressed interest in recording an album with the intention to shop it to a major label: thus, the now-legendary Cold Sun album was born. The band, driven by Miller's strange electrified autoharp sounds plus the massive fuzz guitar of McGarrigle, dressed with feedback and futuristic lyrics, laid down several tracks in between rehearsals at Miller's house on Castle Hill (west Austin). The album opens with 'South Texas' ("the ultimate psychedelic track," according to Patrick "The Lama" Lundborg), climbing to a psychedelic summit with the final 11 minutes of the fervently intoxicated 'Ra-Ma.' Never released at the time, the Cold Sun album languished in oblivion and the musicians moved on to other things. Billy Bill Miller along with drummer Hugh Patton founded Bleib Alien (later The Aliens), the famous backing band of Roky Erickson, with Billy being essential in bringing Roky back to music after his stay at Rusk Mental Hospital. It wasn't until 1990 that the Cold Sun album was finally released on vinyl by the Rockadelic label (in a tiny edition of 300 copies), followed by a new edition on German label World In Sound in 2008, now out of print. For this new edition on Guerssen, we've tried to imagine how the Cold Sun album could have looked like if it had been actually released in 1970. It comes in a hard cardboard sleeve with vintage styled artwork by psychedelic illustrator Callum Rooney. Sourced from the same audio master as the original Rockadelic LP, the sound has been vastly improved thanks to the meticulous and careful restoration/remastering by audiophile engineer Ezra Lesser, who has also penned the definitive story of Cold Sun for the liner notes. 'Sweat Of The Sun' is the third album by DDT, the experimental project formed by members of Carlton Melton and White Manna. Like with their previous records, this album was recorded at 3D Light in Northern California where tracks evolved from several jam sessions and improvisations with steel and electric guitars, synthesisers, bass and double drums. Unlike their previous release, 2021's 'Freshwater,' which saw more members joining in with various parts and overdubs, 'Sweat Of The Sun' sees DDT paired down to just the core members, Anthony Taibi and Andy Duvall, with a looser, more laid back feel. The band has dedicated 'Sweat Of The Sun' to the memory of Anders Bröstrom, AKA Domboshawa, who sadly passed away at the end of 2023. It was Andy Duvall from the band who introduced the label to Anders' music and started a relationship spanning six releases on Drone Rock Records. This album is a perfect tribute to a wonderful, kind and extremely talented man. 'Sweat Of The Sun' is a super limited pressing of just 250 copies on 'Psychedelic Sun" coloured vinyl with the cover art giving a knowing nod to an iconic LP by the 13th Floor Elevators.

When the fuzz rockers Ridge just released their epic 'A Countrydelic And Fuzzed Experience In A Colombian Supremo' (4/5 in Kerrang) in 2001, they unfortunately split up. In a frenzy from the events that happened, alongside a cruel divorce, the two songwriters continued to write and record as a duo: Fandango. Songs that orginally were written for Ridge's second album ended up on this "live" album along with newly written songs. 'The Sweet Five' shows how a divorce and a break up physically sounds; RAW, RUGGED, FUZZY and HARD. The duo wrote and recorded all songs in their own studio/rehearsal space between 2001-2002. Sounds like Iggy & The Stooges a car
chase - far out in the desert, with Fu Manchu and Queens Of The Stone Age tailgating. It will hurt.

Heavy psychedelic progressive rock outfit Mojo & The Kitchen Brothers is a 5-headed omnium gatherum of young and eclectically inspired music freaks from Belgium that came together in 2021. Sharing their love of late '60s and early '70s heavy and progressive rock, as well as for their contemporary psych-rockers, Mojo is continually playing around with their bearings in the sonic whirlpool between past and present. With their sights racing past both sides, they manage to sound both assuringly familiar and arousingly strange. After the digital release of their EP 'Flaming Tiger Lizard' (2022) followed the vinyl release in 2023 through the Dutch record label Lay Bare Recordings. It is that same continuity and driving force that led the band to their debut full length album titled 'Mojo's Heavy Cream' in 2023 digital and on vinyl. This album presents an intriguing collection of all-original tracks that both clearly echo some of the band's major influences, like Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Wishbone Ash, and show the band coming together musically and finding their own voice. Indeed 'Mojo's Heavy Cream' displays some degree of maturation in Mojo's sound and vision, but this maturation is by no means final. The band leaves the door not just open, but blown off its hinges and burned to a crisp in the fires of their insatiable lust for more. Childlike enthusiasm, je m'en fous freedom and freaked out free-association are the cornerstones of Mojo's creative process, and as such, you can safely expect to hear more from these guys soon, because their next projects are already in the works.

Steadily building in intensity over two sides the material strikes an incredible balance between woozy weirdness, rock-outs replete with acerbic Lennon-esque put-downs, and baroque navel-gazing. The sound of rainy afternoons in a London squat, old copies of OZ on a white table, joss-sticks burning, gooseberry wine and Moroccan hash.

Heavy-progressive sounds with long tracks and stunning lead guitar by this British band (post-Red Dirt). This is the first ever vinyl release of their unissued at the time album recorded between 1971 and 1973 at some of London's best studios (Morgan, Denmark) and sounding like a killer cross between King Crimson and Wishbone Ash! Snake Eye started life in 1970 as Red Dirt, the band famous for their collectable Fontana album. After playing several dates in London Red Dirt was picked up by Peter F. Amott and Ivan Mant who, at the time, worked with the John Sherry Agency and Miles Copeland. Miles Copeland chose the name "Snake Eye" for the new line up, featuring Ron Hales on lead guitar. Snake Eye played with many of the top artists at the time such as Free, Marc Bolan, The Kinks or Status Quo and they were described by Manfred Mann as being 'one of the best bands' he had seen. Originally conceived as concept album, 'The Journey' was started in 1971 and finished in 1973 but never released at the time. Vintage styled artwork in hard cardboard sleeve. Remastered sound. An obscure country-psych rock relic from Kansas. In 1968 four of the five original members of The Wizards From Kansas formed a band called New West, and began playing in the Lawrence, Kansas area, at clubs and parties. Californian guitarist Robert Manson Crain joined the group soon thereafter, expanding to a quintet. Reaching on the same esoteric drift as Clear Light or Emitt Rhodes, the band unleashed an even excellent cover of Buffy Sainte-Marie 'Cod'ine,' more in the vein of Quicksilver M.S.

BEATLES - LIVE IN STOCKHOLM 1964
The Beatles returned to Sweden in 1964, playing four concerts at the Johnneshov Isstadio in Stockholm, two on July 28th and two the following day. This excellent-sounding recording was for broadcast on Swedish TV but neither Ringo's nor John's stage mic was working, so all you can hear is what came through Paul's mic. George and Paul's vocals, the bass and George's guitar amp come through loud and clear, but the drums and John's rhythm guitar sound distant. It does mean you have to make do with just the backing vocals on 'You Can't Do That' and 'I Wanna Be Your Man.' And that was the last the number they played in the evening concert because fans stormed the stage and the group had to stop the show. The LP also includes several live tracks from earlier in 1964, the highlight being a four-minute medley of all five of their UK hit singles from 1962 and 1963, two of which, 'Love Me Do' and 'Please Please Me' they would never play on stage again.

After a year of blasting faves from the 'Pebbles' compilations, they decided not only to add in a few 'garaged up' covers of other lost classics, but also delving into writing their very own songs that combined their '60s garage roots with later influences from the likes of Buzzcocks and Pavement. Early 1990, they recorded a demo at Red Studios of six original songs, and a cover. Later that year, Kevin stepped down from the group.
Come 1992, The Ascoynes went back into the studio as a trio to record their one and only single 'Just The Biggest Thing,' with Billy Childish as producer, subsequently releasing it on Billy's Hangman Records label. Early 1993, they went back to Red Studios to record more demos. This album is a result of those two demo recordings. 'Supersonic Shoes' provides prime unreleased early '90s garage from the best Medway band you've never heard of. Limited to 500 copies.

Formed in 1989 after Johnny Hedlund was kicked out of Nihilist (who split up and reformed as Entombed to avoid firing him directly), Unleashed are credited to be one of the first death metal groups to write songs about Viking/Scandinavian history and heritage instead of the more typical subjects like death and gore. Since these times Unleashed can be counted as one of the leading acts of the Scandinavian death metal scene. Limited to 500 copies on white vinyl.

Jutta Weinhold was born in Mainz (Germany). Her first musical steps are in 1969, when she was engaged in the role of 'Sheila' in the musical 'Hair,' followed by appareances in the musicals 'Godspell' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar' in 1972. Her band Zed Yago, founded in 1985, became pretty popular in Europe and to be considered a pioneer of "dramatic" metal. Unfortunately the success brought internal conflicts inside the band and a heavy legal dispute forced her to not use the Zed Yago monicker anymore, so in 1990 she baptized her new musical project Velvet Viper, to be considered the only possible Zed Yago following; the rest of the band infact could not continue without her and they disbanded soon after. 'Velvet Viper' (with former Warlock Peter Szigeti on guitar) was released in 1990 and 'Fourth Quest For Fantasy' (with former Z.Y. drummer Bubi) in 1992, are both great epic-classic HM albums but did not meet good sales, so then the band was put on ice. In 1994 she released her third solo album 'To Be Or Not' with heavier sound in comparison with her previous solo-ones and with Velvet Viper on hold her unstoppable creativity flowed in Weinhold albums 'From Heaven Through The World To Hell' (2004).

3CD set including The Byron Band's debut album, demos, rehearsals and live recordings. In 1981 David Byron joined forces with Robin George to form The Byron Band. With Robin George on guitars (while also adding bass guitar on 'Little By Little'), Mel Collins on saxophone, Bob Jackson on keyboards, Roger Flavelle on bass, John Shearer on drums and The Powder Puffs adding backing vocals, The Byron Band released 'On The Rocks' (CD1), their debut for Creole Records, in 1981. Featuring eight tracks, including the single 'Rebecca', this collection also includes the non-album single 'Every Inch Of The Way', 'Routine', the B-Side of 'Every Inch Of The Way', and 'Tired Eyes', the B-side of 'Rebecca'. CD2 features 13 tracks of writing, home demos in 1982, including 'She Was Good', 'Fool For A Pretty Face' and 'My Kind Of Lady'. CD3 starts with a rehearsal recording from 1981, including 'How Do You Sleep?', 'Safety In Numbers' and 'I Need Love', all written by David Byron and Robin George. The rehearsal recording is followed by a rare live show, recorded in Liverpool in 1980. The Liverpool show features 'Bad Girl', 'Start Believing', 'How Do You Sleep?', 'Piece Of My Love' from the "On The Rocks" album, fan-pleasing covers of Uriah Heep classics 'July Morning' and 'Sweet Lorraine', and finishes off with Chuck Berry's 'Roll Over Beethoven'. CD3 concludes with 'AngelSong', a lighter track by Robin George recorded in 1985 featuring Charlie Morgan on drums and Pino Palladino on bass, included as a tribute to David Byron. Byron sadly passed away at the age of 38 at his Berkshire home in 1985.

After many years of silence, the legendary death metal force of Necrophagia, one of the very first death metal acts, has reawakened. The band's revamped line-up have signed to Time To Kill Records for the release of the their final album, 'Moribundis Grim.' In the years of 2016-2018, the band's last line-up - Killjoy, Serge Streltsov, Shawn Slusarek and Jake Arnette - composed and started recording what became their final opus, 'Moribundis Grim.' Unfortunately in 2018 Killjoy passed away before finishing the album. In 2022 with the help of special guests and former Necrophagia members - John McEntee from Incantation, Titta Tani (ex-Goblin) and Mirai Kawashima from Sigh - the album was finally completed. In a way, it is quite sensational to see another Necrophagia album released at this point in time, meaning 40 years after their first demos were released!

Jutta Weinhold was born in Mainz (Germany). Her first musical steps are in 1969, when she was engaged in the role of 'Sheila' in the musical 'Hair,' followed by appareances in the musicals 'Godspell' and 'Jesus Christ Superstar' in 1972. Her band Zed Yago, founded in 1985, became pretty popular in Europe and to be considered a pioneer of "dramatic" metal. Unfortunately the success brought internal conflicts inside the band and a heavy legal dispute forced her to not use the Zed Yago monicker anymore, so in 1990 she baptized her new musical project Velvet Viper, to be considered the only possible Zed Yago following; the rest of the band infact could not continue without her and they disbanded soon after. 'Velvet Viper' (with former Warlock Peter Szigeti on guitar) was released in 1990 and 'Fourth Quest For Fantasy' (with former Z.Y. drummer Bubi) in 1992, are both great epic-classic HM albums but did not meet good sales, so then the band was put on ice. In 1994 she released her third solo album 'To Be Or Not' with heavier sound in comparison with her previous solo-ones.

WITCHFINDER GENERAL - DEATH PENALTY
'Death Penalty' is the debut studio album by British heavy metal band Witchfinder General. It was originally released in 1982 on Heavy Metal Records. The album received some criticism for the cover photograph, which featured topless model Joanne Latham. The photograph had been taken in the yard of St Mary The Blessed Virgin Church in Enville, Staffordshire, without the permission of the local reverend. The album was originally released on LP and picture disc and was later reissued on CD. Pictured on the cover is Phil Cope, Zeeb Parkes, Graham Ditchfield and a member of their road crew. While Peter Hinton is credited with producing this recording, the writers Phil Cope and Zeeb Parkes always felt the credit should have gone to the engineer Robin George.

The South German punk and new wave band Familie Hesselbach caused a sensation between 1980 and 1985, first regionally and then nationwide. They indulged in a deliberate eclecticism from the musical preferences of the individual family members and formed these into their unmistakable sound. Disco, pop, punk, rap, no wave, funk, the main thing it's danceable. The lyrics in German and Italian, later also in English - and always with a wink. Their trademarks were the rousing live quality of the performances and the use of brass instruments, trumpet and clarinet from the beginning - the tenor saxophone was added later. After the releases of Familie Hesselbach's first album '1982' (LP 2020) and the tape 'Froh Zu Sein & 8-EP-Sampler' (double LP 2023), this third LP includes the 1984 EP 'Süddeutschland' and their very last tape 'Der Untergang Des Hauses H.' (1985).

'You Know We Love You!' is the ultimate goodbye of this
legendary Dutch rock band and is available as a limited edition
of 1000 individually numbered copies on red coloured vinyl.
This 3LP is housed in a deluxe trifold sleeve featuring a collage of photos that fans of Golden Earring submitted during the past year, plus a 4-page booklet including a replica of the original concert poster. In 2021, Golden Earring announced their parting after more than 60 years as a group. This meant that their last live show, held at the Rotterdam Ahoy on 16th November 2019, was also their final performance as a band. With this knowledge, the excellent audio recordings of this tremendous concert were unshelved in close cooperation with the band and John Sonneveld - the band's long-time technical assistance and producer. The result: 'You Know We Love You!'

Music composed and performed by Timo Kaukolampi in collaboration with Mira Kautto for a performance by the Finnish Center for New Dance, Zodiak. Featuring vocalization by Ringa Manner, Sara Gurevitsch, Anna Torkkel & Emmi Venna. Limited vinyl pressing of 222 numbered copies. The music of 'BS/BF' has echoes of early Brian Eno and 'Low'-era David Bowie. It has manipulated and textured vocals and low grain dub from early digital delay processors. Material draws influences from the 1970s Berlin school to minimalist masters like Éliane Radigue, yet it all sounds thrillingly new. Starkly beautiful instrumental pieces are layered with bassy depths and glittering peaks, with networks of mazy, centre-less electronic pathways. 'BS/BF' is a fantasy forest and an alternate reality in the form of a dance performance. It is made of dancing, hypnotic music and the color blue. 'BS/BF' is an environment where lights, sounds and dances with no clear place outside of the performance, blend into a mutually unraveling logic. The initial inspiration for the work has been a photo book 'Blå Skog/Blue Forest' (self-published, 2009) by artist Morten Andersen. The book offers a rich imaginary environment, completely different and indifferent to the city surrounding the reader. As a performance 'BS/BF' is alike, both the book and the dance performance function as portals to something different and changing. 'BS/BF' is a continuation of the collaboration between Kautto, Timo Kaukolampi, Jenni Pystynen and Anna Torkkel, which began with 'Station To Station To Station' (2019), also released on Svart Records.

Lovebugs is a band against all odds. The girls have been together for 20 years, and even though life has thrown obstacles in their way, they still make catchy music. It's been ages since the last record. The band has defied line-up changes, family additions, apple farms, illness and being abroad, and they themselves are impressed to be relevant again with a new record. The music on 'OverLoved' has been created over a long time. Lovebugs has been in the studio for several periods and two of them have now been made available. Both recordings were largely made at Havnelageret studio. The oldest parts of the disc were recorded by Per-Vidar Staff, and the newest songs were immortalized by Daniel Birkeland. Master-master Iver Sandoy (Enslaved, Wardruna) has made all the songs fit together, and created a soundscape that suits the whole decade.

When jazz meets folk. Private pressings have always been objects of demand and research by record collectors. In most cases, print runs were no more than 300 copies, and despite the total lack of recognition, this movement can be seen as a countercurrent act to the mass music industry. Private presses are non-commercial print runs distributed as a promotion or sold at concerts. This was the case of Belair that, in 1980, recorded and sold the album 'Relax, You're Soaking In It' at their own risk and distributed it in the San Francisco area. At the time, 1000 copies were pressed, which have become rare and highly desirable for collectors. Comes in deluxe hard cardboard sleeve cover, on 180gr vinyl and includes obi. File under spiritual jazz folk.

The opening track, 'New Light,' is a 16-minute journey of pure joy.

Certainly one of the most obscure and perhaps one of the most fascinating works of the English jazz revolution. Master of ceremonies is cellist Paul Buckmaster, known for his work with the Third Ear Band and for his (later) collaborations with Miles Davis, David Bowie and Elton John. 'Chitinous' is his the only album as leader and it was recorded between 31 March and 13 April 1970, by an orchestra of no less than 51 players, with violins, violas and cellos. In this enormous line-up we find the cream of English musicians involved, starting with trumpeter Ian Carr and ending with drummer John Marshall. The leader is on cello, his main instrument, but also on keyboards, which he shares with the excellent Pete Robinson. The music is organized in suites, with very broad suggestions that draw from classical and contemporary music and then move back into jazz territory.

At its heart the Rendell/Carr Quintet had one of the leading British jazz musicians of the post-war era - saxophonist Don Rendell - whose CV included work with American big hitters such as Woody Herman and Stan Kenton. Around him he had gathered four younger, more adventurous jazzmen, all wishing to push the envelope of the music. This session captures a moment that, without any hint of sleeve note hyperbole, can rightly be called historic. That moment is the April 19th 1965 debut within the Rendell/Carr ranks of pianist Michael Garrick, a musician who was - again with no little sense of overstatement - to quite literally change the course of the group's direction, and it can be argued with some conviction, that of the wider sound of British jazz. The overall fidelity on this recording is excellent and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

'Spiritual Jazz 16' is a focus on Riverside and its associated sister labels. Riverside itself was founded in 1953 by Orrin Keepnews and Bill Grauer, and became an important purveyor in that decade and beyond of what would be marketed as of modern jazz. That coinage was itself an amorphous, umbrella term that essentially created a demarcation from the vocabulary of pre-war classic jazz and inter-war big band swing, thus recognizing that improvising artists were breaking new creative ground that would subsequently give rise to a flurry of sub-genres, for example bebop, hard bop, cool, modal and Latin jazz. And it's from this multiplicity of sub-genres that we choose the deepest, most vibrant selections that the vast, pan-generational catalogue of Keepnews & Grauer has to offer.

Banda Black Rio is a Brazilian musical group from Rio de Janeiro that was formed in 1976. They were one of the first to undertake the fusion of Essential Brazilian Music with International Black Music. The songs are based on funk but also including samba, jazz and Brazilian rhythms. Compared to other soul-funk groups, such as Kool & the Gang and Earth, Wind and Fire, Banda Black Rio developed a particular style of instrumental soul music fusing together elements from a number of genres. Yo-Yo Ma is one of the most famous and best cellists in the world and has been awarded 18 Grammys, among others. After some very successful excursions into the musical world of jazz, American folk music and traditional Chinese music, the cellist is now releasing another classical album. With his longtime friend, pianist Kathryn Stott, Yo-Yo Ma has recorded well-known and popular classical melodies on 'Songs From The Arc Of Life.' The album begins and ends with two popular 'Ave Maria' settings: Bach/Gounod's bright, radiant version begins, and Schubert's more reflective, serious version concludes. In between are beloved classics such as Brahms' 'Lullaby,' Dvorák's 'Lieder,' Elgar's 'Salut D'Amour,' Jacob Gade's 'Jalousie,' Saint-Saëns' 'Swan,' as well as atmospheric pieces by Debussy, Fauré, Gershwin and Tchaikovsky. These are all pieces that Ma and Stott have often played together in concert but have never recorded until now. Limited to 750 copies on orange vinyl.

Curated by 78rpm record collector Pat Conte, 'The Secret Museum Of Mankind: Atlas Of Instruments - Fiddles Vol. 1' continues the legendary series and seeks to show the diverse range of fiddle sounds and styles developed and practiced across the globe. The compilation, drawn from Conte's pioneering and remarkable personal collection of 78rpm discs recorded in the 1920's-1950's, presents fiddle music recorded across the world from Crete to Madagascar, Mexico, England, Sicily, Norway, India, the USA, Cape Verde, China and more. The album comes in a beautiful gatefold package. It includes a liner notes booklet by curator Pat Conte, original drawings of rare and unique fiddles in Conte's collection, by artist Jeff Tocci, and beautifully remastered audio by Don Fierro. Additionally, the interior gatefold design features a selection of historic images of fiddlers, also curated by Conte and drawn from his collection.

A violin, a fife, and the endless sky opens up to us. Two voices cross it, a duet of swallows playing their perpetual encounters, joined by percussion that crashes like waves on jagged coasts. This is the opening of the album 'Déliryom,' the beginning of this "watia watia" - meaning joyful mess or tasty mishmash, opened by six "zoreys": in Réunion Island Creole, it means metropolitan people from France. But these zoreys claim their creolity as a family of the heart, a chosen homeland. And they celebrate it. Rosemary Standley (Moriarty) and Marjolaine Karlin met at a concert where Réunionese maloya was resounding in Paris. It was in 2008, and their fascination for the island, its rhythms, its language born for poetry was bound to bring them together. A character too, a majestic poet and celestial wanderer, who for them would be a spiritual father - Alain Peters. Or rather his ghost, since he died in 1995 of a heart attack, leaving behind a daughter and some twenty songs that have shaped a fertile horizon for all the musicians of Réunion Island... and elsewhere! Six years after giving birth to their first album ('Zanz In Lanfèr,' 2016), the two singers continue this great journey, exploring other pieces forged over the years, always alongside percussionist and rhythm doctor Salvador Douézy, and new zoreys who have joined them. There is Gérald Chevillon, who plays bass saxophone, Chadi Chouman as a guitarist who has no equal in awakening the colors of his native East, and finally Jennifer Hutt, whose energetic violin evokes the Cajun colors of New Orleans. For even if this new album tells of other facets of the Peters totem, it also ventures towards other Creole lands, other islands where music and song are much more than entertainment: they are a way of being in the world.
