Prompt reissue of the only album released by The Aggregation, a Los Angeles psych rock combo, who licensed the album on LHI - Lee Hazlewood's company - back in 1969. The story goes like that: the band used to perform cover songs at Disneyland attraction park but also produced a bunch of originals to get along with Disney rides and exhibits. Hence their concept album in which "funhouse" is a metaphor for exploring the brain frontiers. A must have!

Limited to 100 copies on purple vinyl! The sole LP by Brazilian quartet Assim Assado, originally released in 1974 by the CID-label, gets reissued on vinyl. Both the artwork and the contents make clear that the band was massively influenced by the psychedelic/progressive art-rock of the popular act Secos & Molhados. Even the androgynous element is present! Assim Assado was led by Miguel de Deus, formerly of Os Brazoes. This wonderful album is recommended to fans of Brazil's late '60s/early '70s rock scene in general, and of Secos & Molhados in particular.

'An-Nûr' is also the title of the single, a long trip of black holes and solidarity with Palestinian people. The LP has been recorded in Rome, in the Cinque Quarti studio, under the patient supervision of Lorenzo.
The Black Flamingo is a stoner-psych instrumental trio, which vibes among space and desert, with a rotten attitude. The band is formed in Rome, literally in the spaces of 30 Formiche club, by Erio Destratis (guru and housekeeper), Tiziano Giammichele (Camion, Cielo Drive) and Mattia Lolli (the Whirlings). Erio soon leaves for a nomad life and his bass is taken by Matteo Nuccetelli (Mad Roller).

More than a single cult, the sole album by Swedish combo Harvester was released as a sort of private press on the small Decibel Records. A magical blend of folk and psychedelic rock, 'Hemåt' was published in 1969. With some extra-rock elements like cello, fiddle and even spare horns, the record is a beautiful and magical ritual. The band eventually morphed into Träd, Gräs Och Stenar.

'Väistyy Mielen Yö,' the third album of the Finnish prog band Viima was slowly worked on for 12 years, sometimes with a closer pace and sometimes with a break of several years. Some changes in the line-up took place during these years. Keyboardist Kimmo Lähteenmäki left the band in 2011, but his playing can be heard on a couple of tracks on the album. His successor, Eric Marquis, was present at Viima's concerts. Next, Risto Pahlama, who is present on this album, took over the keyboards and the duties of the lead vocalist after Hannu Hiltula moved more in the background. As before, Hannu Hiltula (flute, keyboards, backing vocals), Mikko Uusi-Oukari (guitars, Mellotron) and Mikko Väärälä (drums, vocals, keyboards) are responsible for the compositions on this '70s spirit album. Aapo Honkanen plays bass. The lyrics were written by Petri Hyytiä and Mikko Väärälä.

This fourth release in this series on Fruits de Mer focusses on The Honey Pot, and their leaders Crystal Jacqueline and Icarus Peel, who have graced the grooves of FdM on so many releases - projects originated by them, collaborations and compilations - they were once described as FdM's 'house band.' 'Väistyy Mielen Yö,' the third album of the Finnish prog band Viima was slowly worked on for 12 years, sometimes with a closer pace and sometimes with a break of several years. Some changes in the line-up took place during these years. Keyboardist Kimmo Lähteenmäki left the band in 2011, but his playing can be heard on a couple of tracks on the album. His successor, Eric Marquis, was present at Viima's concerts. Next, Risto Pahlama, who is present on this album, took over the keyboards and the duties of the lead vocalist after Hannu Hiltula moved more in the background. As before, Hannu Hiltula (flute, keyboards, backing vocals), Mikko Uusi-Oukari (guitars, Mellotron) and Mikko Väärälä (drums, vocals, keyboards) are responsible for the compositions on this '70s spirit album. Aapo Honkanen plays bass. The lyrics were written by Petri Hyytiä and Mikko Väärälä.

Emerging out of Amsterdam's vibrant squat scene in 1979, The Ex - a name chosen for the ease and speed with which it could be spray-painted onto a wall - have for four decades been an entirely self-sustaining musical entity, charting a course through the global underground with a spirit of freedom and radical exploration. 'Blueprints For A Blackout,' The Ex's fifth album and first double LP, combines caustic studio experimentations and loose songs from their gripping live-set at the time. The band consisted of singer G.W. Sok, guitarist Terrie Ex, two new recruits on bass, Luc and Yoke, and drummer Sabien Witteman, along with a plethora of guests including Mekons' Jon Langford and long-serving sound engineer Dolf Planteijdt, among others. Originally released in 1984 on the band's own Pig Brother Productions, 'Blueprints' veers from jagged punk explosions to sharply focused improvisations featuring field recordings that would become a hallmark of their subsequent forays into free jazz and experimental music. The overall effect is not unlike the menace of a slowly building winter storm. Tracks like 'Rabble With A Cause,' 'U.S. Hole' and 'Scrub That Scum' stand out as exemplars of this phase of The Ex. Comparisons can be made to contemporaries Einstürzende Neubauten, NoMeansNo and Svätsox as well as later Crass label bands. Comes with 24-page booklet.

« Lush Life » (1958) is among John Coltrane's best endeavors on the Prestige (and Music) label. One reason can easily be attributed to the interesting personnel and the subsequent lack of a keyboard player for the August 16, 1957 session that yielded the majority of the material. Coltrane (tenor sax) had to essentially lead the compact trio of himself, Earl May (bass) and Art Taylor (drums). The intimate setting is perfect for ballads such as the opener `Like Someone in Love ». John Coltrane doesn't have to supplement the frequent redundancy inherent in pianists, so he has plenty of room to express himself through simple and ornate passages. Unifying the slippery syncopation and slightly Eastern feel of « I Love You » is the tenor's prevalent capacity for flawless, if not downright inspired on-the-spot « head » arrangements that emerge singular and clear, never sounding preconceived. Even at an accelerated pace, the rhythm section ably prods the backbeat without interfering. A careful comparison will reveal that « Trane's Slow Blues » is actually a fairly évident derivation (or possibly a different take) of « Slowtrane ». But don't let the title fool you as the mid-tempo blues is undergirded by a lightheartedness. May provides a platform for Coltrane's even keeled runs before the tenor drops out, allowing both Earl May and then Art Taylor a chance to shine. The fun cat-and-mouse-like antics continue as Taylor can be heard encouraging the tenor player to raise the stakes and the tempo - which he does to great effect.

Cookin' is the first of four albums derived from the Miles Davis Quintet's fabled extended recording session on Octobre 26, 1956; the concept being that the band would document its vast live-performance catalog in a studio environment, rather than preparing all new tracks for its upcoming long-player. The bounty of material in the band's live sets - as well as the overwhelming conviction in the quintet's studio sides - would produce the lion's share of the Cookin', Relaxin', Workin' and Steamin' albums. As these recordings demonstrate, there is an undeniable telepathic cohesion that allows this band - consisting of Miles Davis (trumpet), John Coltrane (tenor saxophone), Red Garland (piano), Paul Chambers (bass) and Philly Joe Jones (drums) - to work so efficiently both on the stage and the studio. This same unifying force is also undoubtedly responsible for the extrasensory dimensions scattered throughout these recordings. The immediate yet somewhat understated ability of each musician to react with ingenuity and precision is expressed in the consistency and singularity of each solo as it is maintained from one musician to the next without the slightest deviation. « Blues by Five » reveals the exceptional symmetry between Davis and Coltrane that allows them to complete each others' thoughts musically.
Cookin' features the pairing of « Tune Up / When the Lights Are Low » which is, without a doubt, a highlight no only of this mammoth session, but also the entire tenure of Miles Davis mid-`50's quintet. All the éléments converge upon this fundamentally swinging medley. Davis's pure-toned soloes and the conversational banter that occurs with Coltrane, and later Garland during « When the Lights Are Low », resound as some of these musicians' finest moments.

Recorded in 1971 in Los Angeles, A New Shade of Blue by Harold Land was produced by Bob Shad. The album is nothing but a Harold Land - Bobby Hutcherson Quintet album in disguise. This quintet recorded a handful of marvelous albums between 1967 and 1971 mainly under the Bobby Hutcherson name on Blue Note but they recorded one album on Chess and two for Mainstream Records. A New Shade of Blue, recorded in Los Angeles where the quintet was based, is one of their best albums and has never been reissued before.

First time reissue of Harold Land's classic LP 'Damisi,' recorded in Los Angeles for Bob Shad's Mainstream Records and released in 1972. Featuring Buster Williams (b), Ndugu (ds), Bill Henderson (keys) and Oscar Breashear (tp) the album was recorded at a crucial time when Land was shifting to a more spiritual sound. The session is a superb mix of funk and modal jazz and features the monster groove 'In The Back, In The Corner, In The Dark' as well as the deep, meditative track 'Pakistan.' The album is reissued in its original gatefold sleeve adding never-seen session photos, with newly remastered audio and a 2-page insert including new liner notes by Kevin Le Gendre.

MOBLEY, HANK - MOBLEY'S MESSAGE
This is tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley's first release on the Prestige label, after one previous Blue Note release. Here
he is joined by Donald Byrd (trumpet), Barry Harris (piano), Doug Watkins (bass) and Art Taylor (drum) with a guest appearance from Jackie McLean (alto saxophone) on one track.
As one might expected, the program is quite « beboppy », with the band running through bop standards like Bud Powell
« Bouncing with Bud », Monk's « 52nd Street » and Parker's « Au Privave ».
Mobley's supremely confident solos are highlights of these tracks and he swings through the rather plain arrangements
of « Bouncing with Bud » and « Au Privave » , with exceptional phrasing and melodic finesse, through Byrd's and
Harris's solos as satisfying as well. « 52nd Street » is taken at a very quick tempo and has a short horn interlude between the solos.
It's a small detail but it's enough to elevate the piece beyond being just a blowing tune. Donald Byrd seems to struggle a
little with the tempo, but Mobley and Harris excel. Jackie McLean takes a nice guest solo on « Au Privave » through for
the first half of his solo a recording malfunction gives his sax an odd, muted sound.
Byrd sits out for a lovely ballad version of Rodgers' and Hart's « Little Girl Blue ». Mobley's affecting read of the melody manages to recall the sentimentality of the old tenor ballad masters, while maintaining his own tone and distinctive
melodic flair. Two Mobley's originals round out the record with more bebop attitude. « Minor Disturbance » has a catchy melody and somewhat interesting changes but « Alternating Current » has no written melody and instead jumps right into solos and trading from the band.
It's a nice, fairly standard hard bop album, with very solid soloing all around.

Reissue of cult LP by master Japanese drummer George Otsuka and his quintet, recorded live on 19th July 1975 at the Nemu Jazz Inn and originally released by cutting-edge Japanese label Bellwood, which had recently made waves with Haruomi Hosono's landmark 'Hosono House.' Farid el Atrache's cult album 'Nagham Fi Hayati' is another cornerstone of Arabic music, originally released in 1974 and the soundtrack of the eponymous film starring El Atrache and Mervat Amin. Nicknamed the King of Oud, El Atrache is one of the giants of Egyptian music with Oum Kalthoum, Abdel Halim Hafez and Warda. Composed of four tracks showcasing El Atrache's versatility, the album which contains the monster groove 'Hebina Hebina' happens to be one of Brian Eno's favourite albums. Reissued for the first time since the '70s, 'Nagham Fi Hayati' also contains a unedited version of 'Takassim Oud' highlighting El Atrache superb oud playing. The album has been remastered for vinyl by Colorsound Studio in Paris and includes new liner notes by Mario Choueiry from Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris.

Fairuz's classic album 'Kifak Inta' was produced by her son Ziad Rahbani in the late '80s and only released on cassette and CD in 1991. Composed and arranged by Rahbani, who had already produced 'Wahdon' (1979) and 'Maarifti Feek' (1987), 'Kifak Inta' features his usual blend of jazz, funk and Arabic music, spiced up with Brazilian influences serving Fairuz's beautiful voice. The album successfully pursue the path that made 'Wahdon' and 'Maarifti Feek' such in-demand albums, modernising the sound of the Lebanese Diva with contemporary arrangements.
It is the first time 'Kifak Inta' is released on vinyl, retaining the original cassette artwork. The album - curated by Mario Choueiry from Institut du Monde Arabe (Paris), who also wrote the liner notes (Fr/En) - has been newly remastered by Colorsound Studio in Paris.

Formed in 1968 by two Cambridge students, Fred Frith and Tim Hodgkinson, Henry Cow's original influences included the likes of Soft Machine and Frank Zappa. Dating from 1974, and following on from the re-release of 'Leg End', this is the second in the series of vinyl reissues of the original Virgin albums. Geoff Leigh had left the group and Lindsay Cooper joined on bassoon, oboe, flute and soprano sax. The mix was more 'live' than 'Leg End', with the drums much more up front. The first half is highly composed material, with some of the Cow's best loved tunes, like 'Half Asleep Half Awake' and 'Bittern Storm Over Ulm'. For the second half the material was all written in the studio, using loops, varispeed tapes and electronics, and superimposing live improvisation and composed passages. Classic, historic and still relevant.

Repress on silver/grey vinyl. 'Warsaw' was the planned debut-album by Joy Division, dating back to the days that the band was briefly associated with RCA Records. Recorded in May 1978, it comprised 11 tracks now known collectively as the 'RCA Sessions.' However, the band was disappointed with the label's post-production work and the deal fell through, the album being scrapped. Four of the songs recorded during the RCA sessions had previously been recorded at the end of 1977, and these older recordings would be released the following month as the debut EP 'An Ideal for Living.'

This is an album that takes you on a supernatural journey to the discovery of ancient sounds that move our souls in the deepest of manners. Veronique Chalot was born in Normandy in the north of France, but it was in Paris that she first became interested in traditional French folk music. In 1974 she landed in Rome where she soon earned a small, but dedicated following. In 1979 she recorded her first studio effort, 'J'ai Vu Le Loup,' for the Italian Materiali Sonori label. Over the past 30+ years she has given hundreds of concerts, presenting her repertoire of traditional French/Italian folk songs and building awareness of that fascinating patrimony of antique melodies and dance rhythms. She passed away unfortunately on the 3rd of July 2021.

JULIAN'S TREATMENT - A TIME BEFORE THIS (IT)
Fully licensed, limited to 500 copies on 180gr vinyl. 1970 the year prog rock broke! 'A Time Before This' was the sole album of British cultish band Julian's Treatment. Fronted by sci-fi author/keyboards player Julian Jay Savarin the band became an extra-cult because of their lyrics and arrangements extravaganza. Savarin - who later embraced a solo career - was born in Dominica and moved to Britian in the early sixties. He started rehearsing with John Dover (bass), Del Watkins (guitar), Jack Drummond (drums) and Australian born Cathy Pruden (vocals). In june '70 the label Youngblood released their first album 'A Time Before This.' Based on a survivalist concept the album still stands as an original artefact of the time, still maintaining a sort of baroque feel. Leader Savarin's keyboards maybe all over the place (with that sort of proto-hard church organ feel), but a virtuoso rhythm section and the vocal performance of Cathy Pruden (imagine a crossing line between Julie Driscoll and Grace Slick) give the record an embraceable feeling overall.

SALAMANDER - THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (IT)
Fully licensed, limited to 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl. The biblical ten commandments are surely the main inspiration behind this concept album originally released on British independent label Young Blood in 1971. The one and only release by Salamander, a short-lived UK four piece , the album is a quintessential prog opera with a heavy effort on Hammond organ and lush orchestral arrangements. Comprised of Alister Benson (organ, vocals), Dave Chriss (bass), John Cook (drums) and Dave Titley (lead vocals, guitar), the band was often compared to The Moody Blues and Deep Purple Mark I. Even if the 10 tracks are inspired by the holy script, the band was not proven to be Christian rock itself. The album is a sublime pompous pop affair, with a good dose of fuzz guitars and brass section.

SAVARIN, JULIAN JAY - WAITERS ON THE DANCE

Another unsung hero of the long lost British prog history, Julian Jay Savarin is a keyboard player and composer, poet and science fiction author, hence the association with the most epic and romantic tendencies of the genre. He was born in Dominica (an island between Martinique and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean) and moved to the UK in 1962. He debuted in 1970 with Julian's Treatment, a short-lived progressive rock band which sole album - 'A Time Before This' - soon became a sought after collector's item. Julian went solo in 1973, before leaving the musical scene all of a sudden. 'Waiters On The Dance' was definitely his own creation, a narrative masterwork with sumptuous arrangements. Produced by Miki Dallon (founder of independent label Young Blood) and brought to life with members of Julian's Treatment and singer Lady JoMeek, the album is a mysterious and transcendental opera. 'Waiters On The Dance' sounds like a science fiction concept album of sort. Some of the songs rely on long form suite (the two-part 'Child Of The Night' and 'Dance Of The Golden Flamingoes' both lasting nearly nine minutes), suggesting an ideal trance state. Relying on heavy Hammond organ and hard-blues reminiscence, the album stands on his own offering occasional parallelism with Brian Auger & The Trinity and the more eclectic folk-revival. A true rare gem.
