A/LPACA - MAKE IT BETTER (WHITE)
Repress of 300 copies on white vinyl, without inlay. Debut album of this young psychedelic post punk band from Mantova, Italy. The "beat", the hypnotic and obsessive force that recalls primitive dances, is the concept of 'Make It Better'. The album takes place in an imaginary "beat club", which is at the same time a place of liberation, fun and aggregation. The use of the "beat" has characterized humans since the dawn and has spanned the centuries, changing shape but not substance. In 'Make It Better' the beat is told as an impersonal spirit that advances, cold and impassive like the vocal lines, and guides the band towards a sort of artistic emancipation. The beat is also a way to stay united and purifying oneself from the "responsibilities" of real life and the transition from youth to adulthood, in short from the fear of not "being good enough". Finding refuge in music, with the legitimate dream of even making it a job, or simply going out to drink and dance with friends ("I wanna get drunk, just keep dancing with my friends", from the title track). A/lpaca's music picks up the signals from sixties London, in particular of bands such as Pink Floyd and Soft Machine (indirectly honored in the song I Am Kevin Ayers), mixes them with the Teutonic drive of Can, take some coolness from Joy Division and finally updates everything with the modern example of Thee Oh Sees and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. The result sounds hieratic and adrenaline, rigorous and wild, absolutely irresistible.

The follow up to Centre El Muusa's highly acclaimed debut album from 2020. Again this album is made by these 4 musicians, including one of the most creative and prolific multi-instrumentalists in Europe: Misha Panfilov. He is famous for his (mostly) instrumental psychedelic funk singles and electronic albums by Misha Panfilov Sound Combo (Funk Night Records, USA), as well as the jazzy krautrock by Estrada Orchestra (LP 'Playground' was released 2021 on Sulatron). Volodja Brodsky is a co-founder of the band (and member of Estrada Orchestra) and a master on the Wurlitzer electric piano and space synthesizers. Plus Monika Erdman on electric bass and Aleksei Semenihhin on drums. Centre El Muusa is an Estonian psychedelic rock quartet founded in 2018 (previously named as Centre Electronique Muusa). The project, which started as an avant-garde electronic duo of Panfilov and Brodsky in 2015, developed into a rock band, when it was joined by Erdman and Semenihhin. Gradually, the band transformed their sound from uncompromising garage krautrock to more spacious psychedelia with noticeable elements of ambient and country-rock, while maintaining their signature lo-fi approach to recording and not avoiding risks. CITRUS CITRUS - ALBEDO MASSIMA
Debut album by a Italian psychedelic rock band Citrus Citrus.
Citrus Citrus was born in Padova in 2020 as an idea by guitarists Lorenzo Badin and Luca Zantomio, joined after some months by bassist Enrico Maragno and drummer Marco Buffetti. Citrus Citrus started as an instrumental project based on several jams and past explorations in psychedelic music, but eventually found its final form when joined by singer and producer Thomas Powell. 'Albedo Massima' revolves around the idea of metamorphosis: myths and legends from ancient Greek and Latin cultures contain the roots of our present feelings and obsession as humans and western societies. Along with the content of these mythologies and their migrations across the Mediterranean Sea and beyond, the concept of metamorphosis is reinforced by the Pomelo (the citrus in the cover art and symbol of the band), one of the three originary citruses from which current species have evolved, both in natural and human purposes. The title is a play on words between botany and science: pomelos have a thick albedo under their peel, which is usually discarded but has distinct scent and texture; also the maximum albedo ("Albedo Massima" in Italian) is registered when all incident light is reflected by a surface. 'Sunday Morning In The Sun,' the opening track and first single from the album, follows the reflections of the sun as they dissolve into the space around them as well as 'Echo,' the nymph whose body dissolves and whose voice eternally lingers in the landscape.

Peruvian krautrockers, spaceheads, psychedelic warriors or just droners of Culto al Qondor are back with a record titled 'Tannhäuser Tor'. 2 long songs in a more ambient way, nevertheless, darker and very deep space. The album was recorded with a cell phone in one take, no overdubs, with a very punky or DIY attitude and it captured the smokey trippy vibe of the performance by these two Peruvians. Think of Berlin School (Ash Ra Tempel, Klaus Schulze) meets '90s post rock (Labradford, Flying Saucer Attack) and you get an idea.
Culto al Qondor started in 2003 as a jam band, but it's until 2017 that they decided to start to record albums. Comes on green vinyl.

Repress! The fifth studio album and last euphoric mind-trip to Kikagaku Moyo's imagined island. Best-suited for counting stars, looking at the ocean, and dancing in one's daydream. In many ways 'Kumoyo Island' represents the culmination of a journey for Kikagaku Moyo. While their decade-long career can be summarized as a series of kaleidoscopic explorations through lands and dimensions far and near, there's a strong intention in each of their works to take the listener to a particular place, however real or abstract they may be. In that sense, the title and cover art for the band's fifth and final album draws you into a magical mass of land surrounded by water... but the couch suggests that 'Kumoyo Island'may not be a fleeting stop, but rather a place of respite, where one could pause and take it all in. Reconvening at Tsubame Studios in Asakusabashi, Tokyo, where their earliest material had been recorded, the five members of Kikagaku Moyo found new inspiration in a familiar and comfortable environment. With their adopted homebase of Amsterdam under lockdown and their touring activities halted due to the pandemic, the band felt a renewed sense of freedom being back in Shitamachi, or the old downtown area of their hometown. With unrestricted time in the studio, they began to build upon the demos and song fragments they'd amassed since their last tour. In the 1.5 months spent in Tokyo, everything started to come together. 'Monaka,' its name taken from a type of Japanese wafer sweets, takes melodic inspiration from traditional minyofolk styles, while 'Yayoi Iyayoi' is a rare instance of the band singing in their native tongue, its evocative lyrics utilizing archaic words taken from old poetry and nature books found in one of the many second-hand bookstores of Tokyo. For 'Meu Mar,' an Erasmos Carlos cover, the original Portuguese lyrics were translated into English, then to Japanese. Strangely enough, the words seem to conjure an image of the protagonist floating among the clouds, looking down upon Tokyo Bay. In fact, it may be possible to draw a parallel between the topography of the band's home country... an island nation, surrounded by bodies of water... and the mysterious isle of Kumoyo. Are they one and the same? Has the band finally made it back home? It's up to the listener to decide..

ZONE SIX - FULL MENTAL JACKET
Zone Six was founded in August 1997, when Dave (also known as Sula Bassana) got a concert request for Liquid Visions, but this band was not able to play the show. So Dave had the idea to form a new band just for this: Zone Six. The idea behind was to play long tranceful space- and acid-rock improvisations. Now, 26 years later, this project is still existing and has a new, dark and powerful album out. The basics were recorded within the first three days of March 2022, influenced/affected by the news of the just started Russian war on Ukraine. It took more than a year to do some overdubs and produce the whole album out of these jams/composings (in a few days/weekends).
In the track 'Slingshot,' which covers the whole A-side of the LP, you can hear some ghostly guitar sounds from the older Zone Six guitar player Rainer Neeff and some soprano sax by saxophone legend Gottfried Klier, who already played in the '70s in the band Engerling among many others and is now living around the corner from Dave. The playing time of the tracks is interesting too, leading to a interesting year in history and art: 1954. But that is only a funny sidenote. CASSIE - THE LIGHT SHINES ON
Originating on the Isle of Wight in 1978, the band that would eventually emerge as Cassie began initially appearing under the more denim-and-dog-collar monikers of High Voltage and Black Dog. A key moment in the nascent group's history came in late 1978 when Debbie Barker joined the group as lead vocalist and immediately formed a tight songwriting partnership with guitarist Nigel Hayes. Before long, fans of the group now known as Flirt, were calling out for the band's own punky/pop material, rather than their staple of covers, and singing along with them at their numerous local gigs. Several demo and recording sessions occurred between early 1980 and 1983 all of which remained unreleased until now. Despite local radio airplay and gigging, it was not until Flirt caught the attention of former Black Sabbath co-manager and producer Wilf Pine in 1981 that they group would issue what would be their first and only single. Under Pine's management and with the new name of Cassie, the group re-recorded new versions of 'Change My Image' and 'Will You' for a single release on A.K.A. Records in 1982. Despite the record's strength, A.K.A.'s untenable financial situation resulted in almost zero promotion for Cassie's single. Cassie continued to gig and record for a few more years before ultimately disbanding with its members joining other bands. A tragic moment in the band's history occurred in 2002 with the passing of original songwriter and guitarist Nigel Hayles. Thankfully, his great talents are now showcased within this album.

Rejoice indie poppers, punks and pop kids - Sealed Records in conjunction with the band and BBC release all 14 tracks Dolly Mixture recorded for the BBC. You no longer have to listen to bad YouTube uploads... Here are all the tracks remastered from original sources, and as an added treat featuring John Peel introducing them and three jingles the band recorded for Kid Jensen. The first session was recorded for John Peel in August 1979 and features the unreleased 'Dolly Mixture Theme Song' which the band used to start gigs with and a super strong cover of Goffin and King's 'The Locomotion.' Four already Dolly Mixture classics from the time were also recorded including 'Dream Come True,' 'He's So Frisky,' 'New Look Baby' and 'Ernie Ball.' You can hear the excitement and joy and the sounds are so well recorded at Maida Vale Studios with top notch studio equipment and production. The next session from September 82 was recorded for Kid Jensen and shows a slightly more mature band, but the tracks are just as instant and lovable. These tracks have a more '60s girl group sound but with more energy. Most people will know the tracks from the 'Demonstration Tapes' album but these versions are better recorded and show the band moving forward. The last session from October 1983 was for Kid Jensen and again shows a band evolving but still with tunes that over forty years later are still loved and adored. All in all 14 perfectly rounded pop nuggets wrapped in a beautifully designed sleeve and poster by Paul Kelly.

The idiosyncratic playing of guitarist Jessica Ackerley starts off the album's title track and jumps headfirst into a Hendrix-tinged duo with drummer Jason Nazary. Patrick Shiroishi quickly joins in to take the energy up a notch with soprano sax wailing in both mimicry and opposition to Ackerley's phrasing. Just as the wall of sound is beginning to crack an abrupt halt shifts the energy and Luke Stewart's crawls dialogue with the smearing spattering trumpet solo from trumpeter Chris Williams.

Since the late '60s Kan Mikami has forcefully carved out a space for himself in the culture as a modernist poet, a raging folk singer, an author, an actor, an engaging TV personality, and one of Japan's most uniquely powerful performers. For most of Mikami's career as a singer, he has performed solo. Just him and his electric guitar against the world, creating jagged A-minor vamps to drive along the surreal wisdom of his lyrics. But he's equally at home in more demanding improvisational contexts such as those provided here by John Edwards on bass and Alex Neilson on drums. Their dense propulsive textures seem to spur on Mikami, his voice arcing powerfully into fragmented spaces, his guitar darting, colliding, shedding jagged and angular splinters of sound. Full recording of one of the most engaging and beguiling Late Junction live sessions we've ever heard - the one off first meeting between Korean multi-instrumentalist Park Jiha and writer and performer Roy Claire Potter. Park Jiha plays the saenghwang, a Korean mouth organ which she blows in long multiphonics to set pace for Potter's words. Together they unfurl a scene slowly in front of you, rich and focused, shifting your field of vision and drawing you in, elsewhere. It's impossible not to follow, not to look for where they point. When the piri sounds for a flooded town on the B side, the water flows between your own feet; Potter's words a sometimes frightening hörspiel in scouse. Though the details are fine, the space each artist gives one another and their instruments, their language, is given to the listener in turn. A careful melody picks out a route for words with no fixed meaning, a body with no fixed direction, and we are invited to listen and see a kind of music made visible in its inference. A truly very special record we are very proud to share.

Born in 1964, Yukihiro Isso is a Japanese Noh flutist (hayashi-kata fue-kata) from a family that has been playing this instrument since the 16th century. Isso is also an accomplished improviser and has performed with the likes of Cecil Taylor, Peter Brötzmann and John Zorn. Born 1946, Roger Turner grew up amongst the Canterbury musical life of the 1960s with a strong jazz foundation. Since 1974 work has been concentrated on exploring a more personal percussion language through the processes of improvisation. 'Takanehishigu' is the audio documentation of the first time these artists played together. The results are a breathtaking new music which remains respectful to the individual traditions whilst simultaneously subverting them. 'Takanehishigu' was recorded live at Cafe Oto on 23rd September 2015 by Shaun Crook. Limited to 500 copies.
