BLACK PYRAMID - II (2LP/HEADSPIN) Black Pyramid play doom with the rumbling down-tuned tones of stoner metal gods like Sleep, Electric Wizard and High On Fire, but with the epic arrangements of old school metal and doom acts such as Black Sabbath, Pentagram and The Obsessed. Add to the sonic brew perfectly executed forays into vintage psych and progressive rock, along with the apocalyptic lyrical ravings about war, the occult, and general alienation, and you've got an accurate picture of what the band is all about. This is the band's sophomore album, released in limited editions on black and coloured vinyl.
FLIP-TOPS - ARE STILL A BAND (LP/BACHELOR) The long awaited second LP from the only surviving band from the Legendary Rip Off Records roster! Featured are 11 songs of pure hatred, mixed with enough sugary syrup to give you that stomach ache you always wanted!
JACKETS - WAY OUT (LP-CD/SOUNDFLAT) The Swiss trio The Jackets is formed around the charismatic singer and guitarist Jackie Brutsche, whose strong vocals are equally seductive and piercing. Their wild and stylish live shows already are famous and on vinyl they're just as impressive. The musicians have a background playing with artists/bands s.a. Lightning/Reverend Beatman, The Mad Cow Disease, The Get Lost, Die Tapete, The Fox, a.o.
WILD EVEL & THE TRASHBONES - TALES FROM THE CRYPT (LP/SOUNDFLAT) A cool vinyl release offering 17 freaked out slices of pure garage-punk, in a fuzz and organ dominated style, comparable to their -many- American 60's garage heroes. Includes guest appearances by Bernhard Gold of the Austrian mod-beat group The Jaybirds and Buddy Grabner, formerly the sax-player of Screaming Lord Sutch.
GUDRID HANSDOTTIR - LOVE IS DEAD (CD/BROKEN SILENCE) The second album by the talented Icelandic singer. Though she tends to dress herself in a colourful, glamorous '80s style, her music is rooted in the '70s sounds of f.i. Jethro Tull, the mysterious side of Kate Bush and the history of Swedish pop.
VENETIAN SNARES - A GIANT ALIEN FORCE MORE VIOLENTAND SICK THAN ANYTHING YOU CAN IMAGINE (CD3/HYMEN) A contrast of rhythmic high-speed rage and spacey moods. Up-tempo breakbeats, destructed drum and bass patterns and loops merge in order to sonically attack the mind. Some artists would extract an entire album from this psychedelic breakcore concentrate. Initially released in 2002 along with a picture viewer as a boxset, now available again in very low quantities as a stand-alone 3" CD in original cardboard sleeve without the picture viewer.
SHIRLEY MACLAINES - WANT YOU TO GO (7"/BACHELOR) An awesome single from the rudest, most impolite girls in town, The Shirley MacLanes!
60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES
KANSAS CITY JAMMERS - GOT GOOD (IF YOU GET IT) (2CD/LION PRODUCTIONS) This extraordinary double CD-release offers not only the highly rated self released debut-LP by the mighty Kansas City Jammers (1971), but also their previously unreleased second album (recorded in 1972) and two live recordings. In case you're not familiar with them, the influences range from Brit invasion to rural acid-folk to psychedelic rock. A great release!
STONE BREATH - THE NIGHT BIRDS PSALM (CD/HAND/EYE) An expanded Stone Breath bring forest hymns and acid folk with long time members Timothy Renner and Prydwyn being joined by new blood Don Belch (Ninetail), Carin Wagner Sloan (ex-Iditarod), Brooke Elizabeth and Kira. Guitars, banjos, dulcimers, bouzouki, Celtic harp, hand drums, flutes and whistles add the instrumental textures, with haunting harmonies lifting the vocals. Twelve beautiful tracks!
DESOLATION SINGERS - THE BLOOD BETWEEN US (CD-R/HAND/EYE) A limited edition of 100 CD-R's. At it's core, beneath the smoke, haze, dragging guitars, and broken reverb pedals, the Desolation Singers' music is a slightly tweaked, very gothic take on country music. Remarkable and recommended.
1000MODS - SUPER VAN VACATION (2LP/KOZMIK ARTIFACT) Issued on coloured and black vinyl, it's the debut full-length release from these mind blowing Corinthian stoners. You get one hour of truly heavy psychedelic stoner rock groovers, strongly influenced by the likes of Kyuss, Brant Bjork and Astrosoniq. Produced by the legendary Billy Anderson and including killer artwork by the Malleus Rock Art Lab.
ELECTRIC STARS - I WANT YOU (CDS/PAISLEY ARCHIVE) A sensational new band from Manchester! Electric Stars are influenced by mid '60s beat, mod sounds, late '60s psych and the spirit of '77 punk. An album is coming soon and these infectious tracks are just the taster...
BLACK TO COMM - EARTH (LP-CD/DE STIJL) Music for the 2009 silent film by Ho Tzu Nyen. The music (like the film) is about slowness and decay, states of unconsciousness. Black To Comm employs collage-based sampling techniques, using loops made from vintage vinyl and shellac records combined with acoustic and electronic instrumentation and voice.
DEAN ALLEN FOYD - SOUNDS CAN BE SO CRUEL (LP-CD/CRUSHER) Dean Allen Foyd from Stockholm is one of the most noteworthy new bands on the Scandinavian psych scene. The nine tracks on this wonderful album reveal influences from '60s heroes such as Syd Barrett, Arthur Lee & Love and Captain Beefheart. A trio to keep an eye (and ear) on!
WIGHT - WIGHT WEEDY WIGHT (LP+7"/BILOCATION) The debut album by a promising young German psychedelic/progressive/doom/rock trio. With their playful, atmospheric slow-motion tunes they celebrate an authentic Black Sabbath mass. Yes, while giving this a spin even Beelzebub turns all trippy, psychedelic and far out! This is a luxurious hand numbered LP edition, pressed on 180 gram vinyl, with glossy gatefold sleeve, insert and a bonus 7".
AGHAST MANOR - GASLIGHTS (CD/INFINITE FOG) Aghast Manor invites you to join them in their haunting darkness and decadent visions. With a blend of sinister ambient atmospheres and classical tunes, their first album offers images of industrial lunacy, opium smokers in Victorian settings, dark poetry, femmes fatales, Jack the Ripper and occult experiences that make any fan of H.P. Lovecraft drool.
CLOSING THE ETERNITY - NORTHERN NIGHTS AMBIENCE (CD/INFINITE FOG) A brand new album from this highly respected act from the Russian ambient/drone scene. Closing The Eternity hail from Siberia and this is another serene collection of frozen drones from the melting permafrost. Released as a hand-numbered, luxurious digibook. Limited edition.
PROTAGONIST - A REBOURS (CD/RAUBBAU) Previously on Cold Meat Industry in 1998, now reissued. Essential for fans of dark industrial rumblings.
PROTAGONIST - SONGS OF EXPERIENCE (CD/RAUBBAU) Another reissued Protagonist-title. This one was previously released by Cold Meat Industry in 2005. You may expect orchestral splendour, rigid drumming, dramatic string parts and haunting, eerie atmospheres, pushing the album towards the darker edges of the neo-classical spectrum.
FRANK RIGGIO - PSYCHEXCESS I - PRESENTISM (CD/HYMEN) The first volume in an interesting trilogy. Due to the narratives, arcs of suspense and cliff hangers, this work raises the impression of a movie in three parts, but in an aural format.
SABES - DIESEL CHARM (CD/ANT-ZEN) Influenced by the 1990's classic industrial projects of f.i. Asche, Imminent, Synapscape and Iszoloscope, Sabes accomplished a high energetic blend of blasting beats, complex sequencer patterns, unsettling samples and crushing power noise textures. It's a thrilling combination of ramming beats, organic bass lines, harsh industrial surfaces and interspersed dark ambient sound spheres. Or in other words: this album combines excellent contemporary industrial, raging techno dancefloor attacks and horrifying dark atmospheres into black mastery.
SEE SEE - GOLD & HONEY/SUNBLEACHED (REMIX) (7"/GREAT POP SUPPLEMENT) A double A-side single from London's The See See. 'Gold & Honey' is another gorgeously '60s flavoured, timeless pop gem straight outta the US West Coast lineage of Byrds, Flying Burrito Brothers and Buffalo Springfield. The remixed version of 'Sunbleached' takes the track in a mesmerizing Kraut rock direction. Only 500 copies, presented in hammer press sleeve.
60’s & 70’s & 80’s (RE-)RELEASES AND ARTISTS + OTHER OLDIES
BODO - HIS INTERNACIONALES (LP+7"EP/SHADOKS MUSIC) An incredible reissue! This ultra rare Mexican psych record is a true holy grail for collectors of Latin American psych. As rare and highly rated as the Mexican Kaleidoscope LP! Includes a 4-track bonus EP on coloured vinyl!
MUSTAPHA SKANDRANI - ISTIKHBARS AND IMPROVISATIONS (LP-CD/EM RECORDS) Reissue on CD and LP. 'Istikhbars And Improvisations', recorded in 1965 in Paris, is a solo piano album presenting a trans-Mediterranean crossover, based on traditional Algerian vocal pieces known as Istikhbars as well as Western styles. Includes English and Japanese liner notes. The LP's come with silk screened art work.
ESCOMBROS - ESCOMBROS (LP/SHADOKS MUSIC) Reissue of a top notch album of fuzzy psychedelia from the Chilean late '60s-early '70s underground. Original copies of this killer LP (1970) appeared on the Arena label and are extremely rare. This excellent new edition includes two bonus tracks and a insert.
MATSUO OHNO - I SAW THE OUTER LIMITS (2CD/EM RECORDS) The 1978 LP 'I Saw the Outer Limits', reissued here, was the first full-length non-soundtrack release by electronic musician and synth wizard Matsuo Ohno. The record marked a huge step for him, offering non-programmatic music, designed to stand alone, free of visual imagery. Superb stuff! As a bonus the reissue includes a miniature reproduction of 'Play On Animals (Choju Gigaku)', which was reissued on 7" and rated as one of 2011's top releases by Byron Coley of The Wire.
RAIN - NORSK SUITE (LP/SHADOKS MUSIC) A wonderful collection of psych-rock from one of Norway's best keep secrets. Originally issued in 1969, this reissue includes printed inner sleeve plus insert.
ESTRELLA DE MARZO - A LOS NINOS CON AMOR (CD/SHADOKS MUSIC) Another reissue, this time on CD, of a legendary title from South-America. Together with Wara and Climax, Estrella De Marzo were one of the best bands in the Bolivian seventies scene. Fuzz guitars, beautiful vocals, progressive moves and hazy Floydian atmospheres guarantee a great listen.
KING GEORGE DISCOVERY - PEACE OF MIND (CD/SHADOKS MUSIC) This album was recorded in Sweden, 1968 by an American musician who was a close friend of Jimi Hendrix. Back then this intense set of Hendrixian psych rock didn't make it beyond the demo-LP stage, but that 'mistake' is at last set straight by this amazing CD release. A great discovery!
THONGHUAD FAITED - DIEW SOR ILAN (LP-CD/EM RECORDS) This foray into unchartered musical territory concentrates on the sor, the traditional two-stringed violin fro Thailand that is a mainstay of Isan musical culture. Thonghuad is a musician born and bred into the molam tradition, the dominant rural music that hails from Isan, the north east Thai province that borders with Laos and Cambodia. Underpinned by woozy bass lines, drones and clattering percussion, his music is characterised by sprightly melodies through to haunting dirges that could come from as far a field as eastern China, or even the Celtic traditions of Ireland. Detailed notes trace his history from his humble beginnings to playing up to five gigs a night in Bangkok at the peak of his fame in the '70s. Released outside of Thailand for the first time!
VARIOUS - MOD MEETING!, VOL. 7 (LP/STYLE RECORDS) A cool disc presenting 16 rare '60s mod and soul beaters from all over the world. The tracklist includes songs from West Five, Gnomes Of Zurich, Dick Jordan, Chasers, Shades Of Morley Brown, Profile (all UK), Ola & Janglers (Sweden), Beatniks (Norway), Johnny Richard & His Spikes, The Sheiks (both Belgian), Phil Jones & Unknown Blues, Groove (Australia), Lee Grant (New Zealand) a.o.
HAWKWIND - WARRIOR AT THE EDGE OF TIME (CD/MEDIA ARTE) CD-reissue in miniature LP sleeve of the fifth album by UK's leading spacerockers Hawkwind. It reached number 13 on the UK album charts and was their third and last album to make the US Billboard charts. Many of the lyrics are by Michael Moorcock and the album is loosely based on the concept of 'Moorcock's Eternal Champion'.
GINHOUSE - GINHOUSE (KOR) (CD/MEDIA ARTE) Reissue of the sole album (1971) by an interesting progressive band from Newcastle. Includes great self penned tunes as well as a cover of the Beatles' 'And I Love Her'. Comes in miniature LP sleeve.
SAFFRON SUMMERFIELD - SALISBURY PLAIN (CD/MEDIA ARTE) Available on CD, this great album of '70s UK folk by the wonderful Saffron Summerfield. Originally released on her own label (though there was interest from major companies), this album is recommended to fans of f.i. Spriguns, Tudor Lodge, early Steeleye Span and Fairport Convention and of contemporary artists s.a. Marissa Nadler, Sharron Kraus and Meg Baird.
SAFFRON SUMMERFIELD - FANCY MEETING YOU HERE (CD/MEDIA ARTE) Also dating from the '70s, this collection is at least as good as Saffron's 'Salisbury Plain'. Nine tracks, featuring fine vocals and instruments s.a. acoustic and electric guitars, bouzouki and cuatro.
PRENTICE & TUTTLE - PRENTICE & TUTTLE (CD/BIG PINK MUSIC) The Boston based duo of Stephen Prentice & Stephen Tuttle released two highly regarded rural inspired folk albums in the early '70s. Original copies of these nowadays are expensive collectors items. Buying this CD will save you lots of bucks!
PRENTICE & TUTTLE - EVERY LOVING DAY (CD/BIG PINK MUSIC) Now reissued on CD, this is the second album (1972) by this great folk duo. Features twelve tracks.

SELECTED PRESS QUOTES
BLACK PYRAMID - II (2LP/HEADSPIN) reviewed by J.J. Koczan for The Obelisk/Roadburn (excerpt) Black Pyramid are heavy, but still unflinchingly accessible...

SPEEDBALL JR - TREBLE IN PARADISE (CD/GREEN COOKIE) reviewed by Joost Jan Meertens for Planet Trash (translated excerpt) In between their own songs there also are a couple of covers. Of these 'Bombora' by The Atlantics is the best one. Modest, but at the same time exiting. Not many surf bands can pull that off, but these Belgians do it easily.
SONGS OF GREEN PHEASANT - SOFT WOUNDS (CD/RUSTED RAIL) reviewed by Gerald van Waes for Psyche van het Folk (translated excerpt) This is the first release of the band since 2007, and they have worked this album out to perfection.
